Meet the newest member of the Young Family ... Tashi Belinda and the kids saw a couple of Tibetan Spaniel pups in a local pet shop just before Christmas and fell in love with them. Gary agreed to get one if they were still there on our return from Wellington, but unfortunately they were sold. Belinda, being the very resourceful person that she is, tracked down a breeder in Whangarei who just happened to have a litter of pups ready to go to new homes. So, off we went on another road trip to collect our new bundle of joy.
Tashi was born on 16 November 2007 and she is 8 weeks old in the photos above. Tashi is a Tibetan name meaning prosperity, auspicious and good luck. The photos below are of her mother - Tseange, and her father - Nimi Li. She will grow to approximately 27cm in height. The Tibetan Spaniel is a breed of assertive, sweet, small, intelligent dogs originating in the Himalayan mountains of Tibet. Small monastery dogs, thought to be early representatives of the Tibetan Spaniel, loyally trailed behind their Lama masters. Not only was the Tibetan Spaniel prized as a pet and companion, it was considered a very useful animal by all classes of Tibetans. During the day, the dogs would sit on top of the monastery walls keeping a steady watch over the countryside below. Their keen eye and ability to see great distances made them exceptionally good watchdogs.
As you can see, the children adore her ...
How can you resist those little puppy eyes ...
