Our first fishing expedition at labour weekend proved to be a bit of a
fizzer, returning home with just enough snapper for a couple of small
meals and a few mackerel for the cat. As Gary has more experience
with fly fishing, we called upon the expertise of our good friend, Ian
(pictured) to give us a few tips on sea fishing. The fish were definitely
biting, however we kept snagging the undersized ones. Jamie seems
to have good sea legs but his mother felt a little queasy after being
below in the cabin feeding him. While motoring back Gary popped
his head above the wind shield to get a clear view of where we were
heading and lost his cap overboard. The next 10 mins were spent
circling and hanging over the side with a net trying to reach it. A good
laugh and also good sea rescue practice.
Below: obviously reading PC World was a bit too much for Jamie and Daddy!

Last weekend we drove to Wellington and spent a few days with
Gary's parents in Raumati (pictured), and a few days with Belinda's
parents in Newlands. Jamie slept most of the way, only waking for a
feed when the car stopped. The weather was shocking, and although
we hate to admit it, Wellington deserves its reputation for being
windy! However, a visit to Courtenay Place reminded us of the
nightlife that can't be matched in Auckland. Melissa cooked us a very
nice dinner at her new flat on our last night in Wellington. On the
return trip we spent two days in the Hawkes Bay and unfortunately
the weather followed us - it was even raining in Auckland when we
got home (very unusual).
