Dear Gary,
thanks for your email and all the information. I see that I am even
mentioned on it. There are a few variations on dates in it from the version
that I have, but much of it is similar. There seems to be a large version of
the tree on the rootsweb site at Lee and Mandy's family tree as well. I will
attach a few more details of our line so that you can update your records if
you wish.
You did not mention whether you had the photo of the Patchett boys or not.
I suspect that you would have given the information that you have.
Was your first George Hodson married to JaMe Lyon, not Jane Lyon?

Cheers for now
Heather P

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your reply. I've had a look at your site again and there are a couple of things I have that you may not. Generally, I think we have both had a good look at the IGI etc as what we have is very similar.

I have George HODSON marrying Jane LYON on 24 Nov 1839 at Skillington, Lincolnshire (IGI). This marriage also shows up at FreeBMD (Dec 1839 ¼, Grantham District, Vol. 14, Pg. 697), but only under Jane LYON. Of George HODSON there is no mention.

From IGI: Jane LYON was chr. 8 Jun 1816 at Little Bytham, Lincolnshire, d/o John LYON and Elizabeth. John LYON married Elizabeth CRAFTS 8 Jan 1816 at Little Bytham. John LYON was born c.1793. You may have had this, I'm not sure.

I had a researcher about 20 years ago track down the shipping records of the PATCHETT's and HODSON's. They all came to NZ on the same ship, the "Leicester", in 1876. Aboard were:
PATCHETT John 56
Elizabeth 53
William 19
Robert 17
George 13
Lizzie 11
Sabina 5
PATCHETT John Jnr. 33
Sarah 35
Charles 9
Tom 6
Charlotte 3
Geo. Wm. 6months
HODSON George 60
Jane 60
Jonathan 12
What I have is not a passenger list but a copy of only these peoples passage. It includes the cost of the assisted passage both to the family and to the government. I also seem to have misplaced the page relating to Charles and family. Half my papers are still in Blenheim at Mums, the other half are up here with me!

I also have the details of Charles and Mary Jane PATCHETT's deaths, but not the certs. as I sighted the original entries in Blenheim some 20 years ago. Also have the same for George and Jane HODSON and John and Elizabeth PATCHETT.

I have a copy of George HODSON's will which I also got from the courthouse in Blenheim, and photos of the gravestones of Charles and Mary Jane. There is also a photo of George and Jane HODSON's gravestone but its quite badly water damaged and I need to replace it. I doubt I could get it copied. I was speaking to Mum this morning and she has a photo of herself and her brother with John George PATCHETT (her grandfather) and Charles PATCHETT. She says she barely remembers him. He died in 1939 and she would have only been 6 or 7 at that time. The photo appears to have been taken when she was about 3 (c. 1935). My grandmother's brother is still living in Blenheim (he's well into his 80's) and sharp as a pin. I plan to visit him next time I'm down there, probably Xmas. He is Charles' grandson.

I also have a copy of an article from the Marlb. Express regarding a boat tragedy on the Opawa River in Blenheim in 1906. The owner of the launch is George PATCHETT "a well-known hairdresser and tobacconist, a member of the River Board, and a Borough Councillor". This would have been Charles's brother. I actually got this because my g.grandmother on the other side lost her 1st husband and son in the accident. It wasn't until I got it that I found the PATCHETT link.

I would love copies of the things you mentioned. Do you need the good old snail mail address for this? The same applies, if you would like copies of any of the above, just let me know. I don't have a scanner or printer, so will need to post them to you.

Think I've given you enough to think about for now. Looking forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Trish.
